黑料福利社, Garland County Farm Bureau Host State and Local Candidate Forum

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The 黑料福利社 (NPC) Student Government Association and the Garland County Farm Bureau will host a State and Local Candidate Forum Tuesday, February 23, 2016. All state and local candidates seeking public office have been invited to participate. Dick Antoine, host of the KZNG-AM 1340 morning show, 鈥淭alk of the Town鈥� will moderate the event. SGA President, Roger Powell, said, 鈥淧art of the mission of the Student Government Association is to promote student interest in citizenship issues. This event will allow our students, as well as the community, an opportunity to meet the candidates and ask the questions that are important to them as voters. Facilitating this event gives us the opportunity to not only serve our student body but the community as a whole.鈥�

NPC Student and Retired Faculty Member Honored at AHA Banquet

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) student, Katherine Olis was honored with the Student of the Year award at the Garland County Chapter of the Arkansas Hospitality Association (AHA) Banquet January 27, 2016 at the Arlington Hotel. Retired NPC Hospitality program director, Karla Nardi was also honored as Educator of the Year. Katherine Olis is from Naples, Florida. She has been in the hospitality industry for 15 years. She became interested in pursuing a career in Hospitality during her work as a server for Cracker Barrel Country Stores. Over the past 10 years, she has expanded her experience while working at Turf Catering and Oaklawn Racing and Gaming. Currently a shift lead at Cracker Barrel, her drive and skills led her to apply for the Red Shirt Training Team, a program where employees recognized as leaders travel the country training others. Olis鈥� goal is to become a general manager of a Cracker Barrel store. She has worked long hours to meet her academic goals. Certified in multiple national exams, she has maintained a 4.0 GPA and will graduate with an Associate of Science in Hospitality and Tourism with honors in May.

NPC Director of 黑料福利社 Elected to NASFAA Board

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) Director of 黑料福利社, Lisa Hopper was recently elected to the National Association of 黑料福利社 Administrators (NASFAA) Board. She will serve a two-year term that will begin July 1, 2016. She faced opponent, Jack Edwards, Director of 黑料福利社 for Stanford University Graduate School of Business for the position of Representative-At-Large. She believes her experience and advocacy efforts for community colleges ultimately helped her earn the votes she needed.

NPC Hosts Freedom Film Festival for Human Trafficking Taskforce

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) will host a Freedom Film Festival with the Human Trafficking Taskforce of Garland County on February 9, 2016. Four films are scheduled to play throughout the day beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the Computer Resource Auditorium (CR200). NPC Behavioral Intervention Specialist, Susan Millerd, MSW said, 鈥淗uman trafficking is an important issue facing our community. It is happening right here where we live and putting our youth at risk. We want to do our part to help educate the community about ways we can help combat this horrible crime.鈥�

NPC Hospitality and Tourism Students Compete in Chocolate Festival

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) Hospitality and Tourism students competed in the Cooperative Christian Ministries and Clinic (CCMC) 12th Annual Chocolate Festival on Sunday. The festival was a project for the Restaurant and Event Management Class. The Garland County Chapter of the Arkansas Hospitality Association assisted with funding for the supplies. Instructor, Eve Baum Victory said the class spent last semester recipe testing and finally decided to submit Maple Bacon Walnut Fudge. Students created 800 pieces of fudge to serve for the event and made a pan without nuts for visitors with allergies. The class created a rustic lumberjack theme for the booth and dressed in flannel, jeans and work boots. The bark backdrop and wood tiered servers complimented the hearty dessert.

NPC Welcomes Dr. Jerry Thomas as VP Student Affairs

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) Board of Trustees held their annual meeting and regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Items for report included new hires, new degree programs, an update on the Foundation鈥檚 year-end report, and an overview of recent and upcoming campus events. During the annual meeting, the Board elected new officers, appointed standing committees and adopted the calendar for the year. Gene Parker was appointed Chairman, Ray Donathan was appointed Vice Chairman and Gail Ezelle was appointed Secretary/Treasurer.

黑料福利社 Partners with HSSD to Offer Adult Education Services in the Jones Administration Building

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) Adult Education Department has partnered with the Hot Springs School District (HSSD) to offer Adult Education programs at the Jones Administration Building in Hot Springs. The HSSD Board of Directors approved the agreement at their regular monthly meeting on January 19. Beginning Monday, January 25 programs including GED preparation, English as a second language (ESL) classes and workplace skills training through the W.A.G.E. program will be open to the community.

Saline Memorial Hospital Donates Equipment to NPC Health Sciences

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The 黑料福利社 (NPC) Health Sciences Division received a GE MAC-5000 from Saline Memorial Hospital last month. If purchased new, the GE MAC-5000 echocardiogram (ECG or EKG) equipment costs approximately $15,000. ECG equipment is used to measure electrical activity in the heart. The Health Sciences Division plans to use the equipment for teaching proper technique in obtaining ECGs as well as identifying ECG patterns that require medical interventions.

U.S. Army Reserve Veteran and Arkansas Native, Dr. Jerry Thomas Selected as VP for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at 黑料福利社

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) has selected U.S. Army Reserve Veteran and Arkansas native, Dr. Jerry Thomas as Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Dr. Thomas will be introduced at the regular monthly Board of Trustees meeting on Wednesday, January 27, 2016. Dr. Thomas holds a Bachelor of Science in History with a minor in mathematics and a Master of Education in Agency Counseling from Southern Arkansas University (SAU) in Magnolia. He has a Master of Arts in History from Louisiana Tech University, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University at Commerce.

Fiber Optics Technician Training to Begin at 黑料福利社

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) has partnered with BDI DataLynk to offer industry recognized, Fiber Optic Association (FOA) sanctioned, fiber optics networking courses in 2016. Fiber optics networking is a highly technical, hands-on field that is forecasted to experience high growth through 2022. Employment opportunities could include jobs in the cable, satellite television, or phone industries. The courses can be completed in one week and will begin February 8, 2016 and again on April 25, 2016 and November 12, 2016. Industry certifications are awarded with the completion of each course. Instructor, Bob Ballard is a Vietnam veteran and a FOA certified master instructor.
