Child Care Aware Receives Vroom Grant

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 黑料福利社鈥檚 (NPC) Child Care Aware of West Central Arkansas (CCAWCA) was selected as one of 10 sites in the United States to be a part of Child Care Aware庐 of America鈥檚 Vroom initiative. The Vroom initiative, sponsored by the Bezos Family Foundation, helps parents across the country promote brain development in children birth to 5 years old. Vroom provides interactive tools and resources in both Spanish and English that highlight the science behind early brain development, showing parents how they can turn activities like bath time and meal time into opportunities that build their children鈥檚 brains. The Daily Vroom app provides short activities that fit into a family鈥檚 daily routine and is free to download at www.joinvroom.org.

Visual and Media Arts Hosts Summer Shorts Film Festival

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 The 黑料福利社 (NPC) student Film Group of the Visual and Media Arts Department hosted a Summer Shorts Film Festival for young filmmakers Tuesday on the NPC campus. The festival featured students currently attending area colleges and high schools. Cash prizes of $500 were awarded for the best picture in both the college and high school categories. Second place films in each category were awarded $250, and third place films received $100.

Adult Education Hosts Third Detention Center Graduation

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 黑料福利社 (NPC) Adult Education Center hosted its third graduation at the Garland County Detention Center (GCDC) Tuesday where six new graduates earned their GED庐 diploma. . The Adult Education Center began offering education programs in the detention center and the Garland County District Courts last July. Since then, they have helped more than 500 detention center students improve their basic education skills, including 18 students who earned a GED庐 diploma and 130 students who earned a WAGE鈩 certificate.

Advisors Serve At HOBY Conference

June 24, 2016

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 黑料福利社 (NPC) advisors attended the Hugh O鈥橞rian Youth Leadership conference last weekend at Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. Advisors Chelsea Lairamore, Nathan Looper, Josh Ramirez, and Stephanie Rizzo helped facilitate the event as part of the south Arkansas region. The HOBY curriculum emphasizes personal, group, and societal leadership. Dean of Enrollment, Jason Hudnell presented a session on group leadership at the conference. Students participated in discussion and activities related to leadership, service, and making a difference intended to introduce them to the idea of leadership for social change. The event included personality assessments, hands-on group projects, a global community perspectives exercise, and ended with Leadership in Action projects. HOBY participants dedicated over 150 hours of service to local libraries and the Boys and Girls Club in Magnolia, Arkansas.

NPC Hosts Kids College

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 黑料福利社 (NPC) hosted the annual Kid鈥檚 College summer camp this week. Students in grades six through eight participated in six different classes. The Up-Up and Away 鈥 Drone Education 101 class taught the basics of flying drones using drone models provided in part by the NPC Innovative Technologies Center (ITC). NPC Announces Search for New Mascot

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 The 黑料福利社 (NPC) Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday, June 22. Items for report included the County鈥檚 hazard mitigation plan, updates regarding the facilities master plan, and announcement of the search for a new mascot. The Board welcomed new hires Ana Hunt, Registrar; Gary Quintanilla and Mary Webb, Institutional Services Assistants; and Tim Ward, retail specialist for the bookstore. Vice President for Finance and Administration, Steve Trusty announced Brian Kroening, accounting supervisor will serve as Interim Controller for the College until the position is filled. Janet Brewer, Vice President for Human Resources presented the Garland County Hazard Mitigation Plan for adoption.鈥疶he Garland County Quorum court recently adopted the plan, which includes strategies to reduce human cost and property damage caused by natural disasters, and investigates safe rooms, better drainage and more responsive policies. The updated plan allows the county to apply for federal grants that strengthen buildings and infrastructure against natural disasters.

NPTC Students Earn CPR, PCA Certifications

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 53 National Park Technology Center (NPTC) students earned their cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, and 36 students received their Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification during the spring semester. Students from high schools in Garland, Pike and Montgomery counties are eligible to attend the technology center during their junior and senior years. As part of the curriculum for the course, Health Science Technology Education (HSTE) students have the opportunity to receive their CPR certification through the American Heart Association. To meet the standards for this certification, students are required to complete a seven-hour course and demonstrate proficiency in performing chest compressions and breaths, automatic external defibrillator (AED) and first aid training. A CPR certification is a requirement when working as a health care provider in any capacity.

NPC Announces Spring President鈥檚, Dean鈥檚 Lists

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥 The 黑料福利社 (NPC) Office of Student Affairs released the Dean鈥檚 list and President鈥檚 list for the spring 2016 semester. 249 students were named to the Dean鈥檚 list and 242 students were named to the President鈥檚 list. Students on the Dean鈥檚 list must maintain a minimum of a 3.25 semester GPA and a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Students on the President鈥檚 list must maintain a minimum of a 3.6 semester GPA and a 3.6 cumulative GPA.
