NPC Hosts Kids College

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) hosted the annual Kid鈥檚 College summer camp this week. Students in grades six through eight participated in six different classes. The Up-Up and Away 鈥� Drone Education 101 class taught the basics of flying drones using drone models provided in part by the NPC Innovative Technologies Center (ITC). Visual and Media Arts Hosts Summer Shorts Film Festival

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The 黑料福利社 (NPC) student Film Group of the Visual and Media Arts Department will host a Summer Shorts Film Festival for young filmmakers June 28 and 29 on the NPC campus. The festival is open to students currently attending area colleges and high schools. Cash prizes of $500 will be awarded for the best picture in both the college and high school categories. Second place films in each category will be awarded $250, and third place films will receive $100.

Welding Service Project Benefits VA Clinic

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� Students in the 黑料福利社 (NPC) Welding program designed and fabricated an iron bench that they donated to the Central Arkansas Veteran鈥檚 Health Care System鈥檚 (CAVHS) Hot Springs Community Based Outpatient Clinic. A dedication ceremony was held today. Dr. John Hogan introduced Michael Dobbs, Chief of Voluntary Services for CAVHS. Also in attendance was Anita Deason, Military and Veteran Services Representative for Senator John Boozman; Courtland Sykes, Military and Veteran Services Representative for Congressman Bruce Westerman; Judge Rick Davis, Senator Bill Sample; Stanley Bee, Veteran Services Officer for Garland County, and representatives from the Hot Springs Village VFW Post 10483. Welding Bench DedicationStudent artists, Casey White and Chris Smith shared how they designed and fabricated the bench as part of their required service-learning project this semester in their Welding Layout and Fabrication course. The students used gas metal arc welding (GMAW) to complete the project, which required more than 100 hours of labor. The bench was created using welds to look like wooden logs and branches. An American flag waves across the seat back. Each line was individually welded then flattened with a grinder to create the wood grain. To create the depth of the grain, the artists used several layers of different paint shades.

NPC Announces Spring 2016 Commencement

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) will host spring 2016 Commencement for students who have successfully completed the requirements for graduation Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Bank of the Ozarks Arena in Hot Springs. Approximately 400 students have applied for graduation. The Hot Springs Concert Band will perform the processional, 鈥淧omp and Circumstance鈥� and the National Anthem. The Hot Springs High School Navy Junior ROTC Color Guard will present the presentation of colors. Rev. Dr. Michael L. Maddox, Senior Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Hot Springs will give the invocation.

Visual and Media Arts Hosts Summer Film School

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The 黑料福利社 (NPC) Visual and Media Arts program and Continuing Education Department will host a summer filmmaking course for high school students who will be in grades 10, 11, and 12 in the fall. The class will be a thorough introduction to all aspects of filmmaking. The schedule will be four days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., May 31 to June 26. The fee will be $100 per student. The course will cover aspects of preproduction from scriptwriting to preparation of storyboards. Principal photography will include lessons on camera operation, professional sound procedures, lighting, and more. Post production work will involve all aspects of digital film editing. The last week of the course will cover film promotion, including design of flyers and lessons in creating posters via silk screen printing. The students will have access to professional film equipment including Sony Cine Alta cameras, cinema lenses, professional lighting, and professional sound equipment including mixers, microphones, and booms.

NPTC Celebrates Student Success

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The National Park Technology Center (NPTC) held its annual awards program Thursday, April 21, in the Eisele Auditorium of the Frederick M. Dierks Center for Nursing and Health Sciences. The auditorium was standing room only as family, friends, local school officials and NPTC faculty and staff watched more than 100 students being recognized for their efforts and achievements. Students from Lake Hamilton, Lakeside, Cutter-Morning Star, Jessieville, Hot Springs, Fountain Lake, Mountain Pine, and Caddo Hills High Schools received awards. Students received recognition for the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), Student Government Association (SGA) Campus and Community Service Award, Technical Excellence, CHAMPION/Work Ethic and Outstanding Student.

NPC Singers Host Spring Concert

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) Singers and Soundwaves will perform their final concert of the year Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at St. Luke鈥檚 Episcopal Church. Students will perform a concert entitled, A Fond Benediction, based on the Commissioned Choral arrangement of The Lord Bless You and Keep You by Brandon Nelson. Student singers collected funds and commissioned Mr. Nelson to write an arrangement based on the Luftkin version of The Lord Bless You and Keep You. The students honored Mrs. Edds with the work while preparing to sing in New Orleans, Louisiana in February.

NPC Hosts Quarterly ADHE Coordinating Board Meeting

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� 黑料福利社 (NPC) will host the quarterly Arkansas Division of Higher Education (ADHE) Coordinating Board meeting Friday, April 22. The College will host a dinner reception at the Regency downtown Thursday evening at 5:30 p.m. which will feature NPC student guitarist, Andrew Bomberger and local magician, Maxwell Blade.

SPSF Hosts Style Show for Scholarships

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The Single Parent Scholarship Fund (SPSF) of Garland County will host the seventh Annual Style Show for Scholarships Luncheon April 14 at 11:30 a.m. at The Hills at Belvedere. style show modelsThe style show will include collections from Chantilly, Pink Avenue, Accessory Gallery, Grow, and Christi鈥檚 Boutique. Tickets are $30 per person and includes lunch courtesy of Special Touch Catering. The event will feature stories from two NPC students impacted by this scholarship and includes a silent auction, door prizes, and a cash wine bar. Proceeds will benefit the SPSC of Garland County. The SPSF of Garland County provides scholarships to men and women of Garland County who demonstrate financial need, are single parents and enrolled in a post-secondary educational course of study leading to a diploma, certificate, or degree. SPSF of Garland County scholarships encourage students鈥� success by providing financial assistance that can be used for transportation, child care, medical expenses, school supplies, books and fees, and housing.

NPC Career Center Hosts Annual Job Fair

Hot Springs, Arkansas 鈥� The NPC Career Center will host its annual College to Career Job Fair April 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Fisher Campus Center. Many campus and community partners contribute to the annual event. In preparation for the fair, Career Services hosted a workshop to help students with building a resume. Career Pathways hosted a Job Fair Boot Camp today that allowed students to learn about how to dress for success, resumes and cover letters, interview and job search skills, and grooming tips. The Student Government Association partnered with Adult Education to establish a professional clothes closet on campus that students can access to get professional attire for interviews.
