Nighthawk Men Win Seventh Straight

David Jagers, NPC Nighthawk, shooting a basket against Rhodes CollegeThe National Park Nighthawk men’s basketball team kept its undefeated season alive Saturday, downing Rhodes College’s junior varsity team for the second time this year, 89-59, at “The Kettle” in Hot Springs.

Rallying behind 17 first-half points from freshman Patrick Greene (Little Rock Mills), the Nighthawks (7-0) went toe-to-toe with the Lynx in a low-scoring defensive struggle during the game’s first 12 minutes before surging to a 9-0 run that helped pace National Park College to a 42-27 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Nighthawks smothered the Lynx, defensively, allowing just two baskets in the paint and leaning heavily on its top-ranked rebounding margin en route to the team’s second-consecutive 30-point victory.

Greene finished with 27 points, including five three-pointers, in the win. Freshmen David Jagers (Mayflower) and Jaren Richards (E-Stem) scored 13 and 11 points, respectively. Defensively, sophomore Braylon Steen (Bryant) added 10 rebounds with six points.
